findout

This is in no way MIRANOSAND’s first single, although it is the first to be getting some proper promotion: being the theme to the recently unveiled Switch OVA. That was where I first heard this single and of MIRANOSAND, and immediately fell in love with MIRANOSAND’s heavy and emotional sound. Digging around their discography (what I can find) reveals this single is a lot different from some of their older stuff, and somehow I think it’s a brilliant improvement. OK, their old stuff is good but this is in a way different, and it’s a good different.

The single starts with the opening to the anime, the heavy and in-your-face Find Out. Yet despite the overall heavy, emotional feeling this song is incredibly beautiful and melodic. The song is put together really well. There’s energy and movement, subtle effects and changes that keep it interesting. Starting distorted the song starts up fully with heavy guitar, and high pitched synth- giving a very fast paced and desperate feeling. The vocalist comes in and his voice is along the lines of the guy who sings for LAST ALLIANCE- it is not beautiful in the typical sense, but contains a very raw power. The song really shines for the chorus where he sings with everything he’s got the English lyrics. I love the “for your life” bits and of course, the title line “find out”. It’s really powerful. And it’s catchy. Then midway the song changes for the bit that wasn’t the opening, a bit of electronically dragging his voice out and fading it away before an amazing instrumental and then back to the chorus. Still the song is fast, but it doesn’t wash over you instead forces you to listen and absorb all the little subtle details. The ending bridge “I will find it out” just completes it- being the most catchy part of the song for sure. Overall it’s just a really great song. Fast and packed with emotion it sticks in the mind. I’ve had it on repeat for days.

The B-side is a ballad of epic proportions. It’s amazing that the A-side could be that amazing, and yet the B-side is still at the same level. It’s a very sad song. Find out is like desperately searching for something, a determined feeling that no matter what you’ll find out what you want to know. Your Hand is more bittersweet, the moment when your confidence runs out and you’re left wondering “wait. Is this really ok?”. The lyrics are painfully beautiful, and tie in with the opening. For the opening he was looking for the key of fate, here he wonders if finding it is the right thing to do. Anyway it starts off gentle, with the same full on feeling but still melodic with a very sad, painful feeling. The vocalist comes in using an amazing falsetto, that definitely takes getting used to. But it’s beautiful and the way that light bittersweet feeling contrasts to the bitter and desperate feelings when he sings low for the rest of the verses, and the chorus… really amazing, I love the chorus, the vocalist puts in so much emotion and it’s painful. Like Find out the song doesn’t stick around it moves quickly, still managing to stay interesting with subtle changes and effects and the astounding emotion it presents. Great bridge with the distortion, like silently holding back the anger of losing someone…

Overall rating: 103894/5 (Awesomeness. Highly Recommended)
Favourite Tracks: Find Out, Your Hand

Overall this is an amazing single with two very addictive and powerful songs. MIRANOSAND have a heavy, in-your-face style and sometimes it can get overpowering. But here they have balanced that sound perfectly with clear melodies, very interesting and subtle effects and of course: the vocalist gives a very moving vocal performance, putting in everything he has to bring out the best in these songs. For me personally this was a great introduction to an incredibly talented band.
